Kilpatrick took Knox News on a tour of the grounds to show what makes The Apple Barn a must-visit fall destination. The Apple Barn is busiest now until December when apples are ripe for picking and tourists take trips to see the fall colors in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. ![]() "My mom and dad and brother are here every day, so it still has a real family feel to it." "It doesn’t feel like work because this is where I grew up," Kilpatrick said. The apple empire employs hundreds of people and sells thousands of different products. Kilpatrick grew up alongside The Apple Barn, which now includes a creamery, hard cider bar, winery, Christmas store, candy shop and two restaurants open year-round. He still remembers dirt floors, grazing cattle and rows of tobacco that grew where apple orchards are now. Kevin Kilpatrick was brought home from the hospital to what is now The Apple Barn and Cider Mill in Sevierville.
